The short version

The Monthly app stores your data on your device and nowhere else. We run no servers that hold your subscription data, the app requires no account, and we embed no analytics or advertising trackers. There is one exception, and it lives on this website rather than in the app: if you choose to send feedback from the support page, that message is stored on a server. See “Feedback you send us” below.

What the app stores

The subscriptions you add (names, amounts, dates, notes) and your app settings are saved in a local database on your phone. This data is included in your phone's own backup (iCloud backup on iOS, Google backup on Android) under Apple's or Google's terms, and in any backup file you export yourself. We never see it.

Network requests the app makes

Monthly fetches currency exchange rates from exchangerate-api.com (via open.er-api.com). This request contains no personal data — it simply downloads the day's rates. If you import from a Google Sheets link, the app fetches that sheet directly from Google using the link you provide. There are no other network requests.

Screenshot import

If you import subscriptions from a screenshot, the image is processed entirely on your device. It is never uploaded anywhere.

Purchases

The optional lifetime unlock is processed by Apple's App Store or Google Play. We receive no payment details.

Feedback you send us

The feedback form on the support page asks you to sign in with Google. When you open that page, Google's sign-in script is loaded from Google; when you sign in, we receive your name, your email address, and your Google account identifier. We use them for one thing: knowing who to reply to, and stopping the form from being flooded. Your message, those details, and your browser's user-agent string are stored in a database we run, and a copy is sent to a private chat so we see it promptly. Nothing here is shared with anyone else, and none of it touches the app or the data on your device. Email us if you want a message you sent deleted. Using the form is entirely optional — plain email works too.
